Expanded Metal vs Perforated Metal Picnic Tables

Both families are steel, come in the same sizes and carry the same warranty. They differ in the surface, the weight, the price, the colors and the mounts. A side-by-side of every pair, and where each one fits.

Brazos sells picnic tables in two steel surfaces, expanded metal and perforated metal. The sizes line up one for one, so the choice comes down to the surface, the weight, the price and the options each family offers. Every figure below is from the product pages.

The two surfaces

Expanded metal is an open steel mesh with diamond-shaped openings, used for the top and seats on a steel frame. Rain runs through the openings instead of standing on the top, and there are no boards to rot or splinter.

Perforated metal is flat steel plate with round holes punched in a uniform pattern. It gives a smoother, flatter surface, and the product pages suggest it where the finish matters: a leasing-office patio, a corporate campus, a hotel terrace.

What the extra weight changes

Freight is one charge per order, set by the delivery zone and the total crated weight in three bands: up to 150 lb, 151 to 350 lb and 351 to 700 lb. One table of either surface falls in the 151 to 350 lb band, and two of either fall in the 351 to 700 lb band, so for one or two tables the freight is the same. The difference shows at the 700 lb online checkout limit: three 6 ft expanded metal tables (654 lb) check out online, while three perforated ones (841 lb) go through a project quote. Above 700 lb, freight is quoted for your lane, and orders of $10,000 or more ship free to Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana and Arkansas. The freight table has every zone.

Where each one fits

Choose expanded metal for campsites and RV sites, parks, school yards and pavilions. It is the lower price per table, and it is the family with the ADA models, the in-ground mounts and the brown finish. See all expanded metal picnic tables.

Choose perforated metal where the finish matters more than the price: a leasing-office patio, a corporate campus lawn, a hospital courtyard, a hotel terrace.

Use both on one site where it helps: perforated tables on the clubhouse patio, expanded metal at the pavilion. Every table counts toward the same quantity prices, whatever its surface: $25 off each at 5 or more, $50 at 10 and $75 at 25 (bulk pricing).

One planning point: there is no perforated ADA model. In a perforated seating area, the accessible positions come from an expanded metal ADA table, so they will not match the surface. If a matched surface matters, plan that area in expanded metal. The ADA planning guide covers how many and where.

Ordering

Orders up to 700 lb check out online with freight priced to your ZIP. Larger orders, the 8 ft tables, purchase orders and tax-exempt orders go through a project quote at the same prices. Orders of $10,000 or more ship free to Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana and Arkansas; other states pay freight, priced to the delivery ZIP. Both families carry the same 10-Year Limited Warranty, and a missing or defective part ships free.

Questions buyers ask

Do expanded and perforated tables take up the same space?
Yes. Each perforated table has the same overall length and width as its expanded metal twin: 72 by 61 1/8 in for the 6 ft, 96 by 61 1/8 in for the 8 ft, 82 in across for the 46 in round and 80 by 80 in for the 46 in square.
Can I mix expanded and perforated tables for quantity prices?
Yes. Every table counts toward the same tiers, whatever its surface, size or color: $25 off each at 5 or more, $50 at 10 and $75 at 25. Five or more tables weigh more than the 700 lb online checkout limit, so those prices come by project quote.
Is there a perforated ADA table?
No. The three ADA models, the 8 ft, the 46 in round and the 46 in square, are expanded metal.
Do perforated tables come in an in-ground mount?
No. Every perforated table is portable. The in-ground mount is offered on the expanded metal 46 in round and square tables and the 6 ft bench with backrest.
Do both families carry the same warranty and returns?
Yes. Every table, bench and receptacle carries the 10-Year Limited Warranty, and a missing or defective part ships free. Returns are accepted within 30 days; a change-of-mind return carries a 15% restocking fee and the buyer pays the return freight.
