Plan it by the break, not the headcount

Rules of thumb for a first list, not code requirements. Size the area for the most people on break at the same time.

Picnic tables

By the largest break

Count the people on break at the same time, then check the Seating row on the product page of the table you choose. Use 8 ft tables where the area is long and narrow.

ADA models

Set by your architect

Plan wheelchair-accessible ADA models into the break area. The rule counts seating spaces, not tables; see accessible seating below.

Trash receptacles

1 per 4 tables

Plus one at each door into the building and one at any smoking area. A 55 gallon can with a flat lid suits a busy break yard.

Benches

2 per entrance

Benches with backrests by the doors and the shuttle or bus pickup, where people wait rather than eat.

Construction sites and data-center campuses

A building under construction is a job site

Until the building is operating, delivery goes to a job site, even when the plans show a dock. Choose "Freight + limited access (liftgate included)" at checkout, $100 over the base freight, and arrange site access with the general contractor: the gate, a delivery window and someone on site to receive the crates.

The dock or forklift rate applies only to an operating facility with a working dock.

Break areas that stay after handover

On a large plant or data-center campus, the tables that matter are the ones that stay: the employee break yard, the security building, the smoking shelter, the shuttle stop. Send the list as a project quote with the delivery date and whether the site will still be under construction, and the freight is priced for that site.

For a crew area, the open-top 48 gallon mesh can is the light, low-cost receptacle.

Over $10,000, so freight is free to Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana and Arkansas, liftgate or limited-access delivery included. Other states pay freight, priced in your quote. Delivery to a warehouse, plant or office

Operating site with a dock or forklift

Choose "Freight: dock or forklift" at checkout, the base rate with nothing added. The trailer deck is 48 in off the ground; your dock or forklift takes the crates off.

No dock, or still under construction

With no dock or forklift, choose "Freight + liftgate", $75 more; the driver lowers each crate to the pavement at the truck. A site still under construction is a job site: limited access, $100 more, liftgate included, with site access arranged through the general contractor.

Orders of $10,000 or more

Ship free to Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana and Arkansas after quantity prices, liftgate or limited-access delivery included; other states pay freight. Online checkout takes orders up to 700 lb, three 6 ft expanded metal tables at most; larger lists go through a project quote at the same prices.

Freight table and delivery guide

Tables and benches arrive crated and bolt together on site; we do not install. Every table, bench and receptacle carries the 10-Year Limited Warranty. Returns within 30 days; a change-of-mind return carries a 15% restocking fee and the buyer pays the return freight.

Accessible seating

How many

The 2010 ADA Standards (226.1) call for at least 5% of the seating spaces at dining surfaces to be accessible, and the architect or local code official sets the number for the site. Plan wheelchair-accessible ADA models into the break area and confirm the count with them.

Which tables

The ADA 8 ft table has a 96 in top over 72 in bench seats, leaving a wheelchair position at each end. The ADA 46 in round and square tables leave one seat off. Whether a site works also depends on the installation: a firm, level surface, an accessible route to the open side and clear floor space at the table.

Questions buyers ask

How many picnic tables does an employee break area need?
Count the people on break at the same time, not the total headcount, then check the Seating row on the product page of the table you choose. Plan wheelchair-accessible ADA models into the layout; the architect or local code official sets the number for the site.
Which freight rate do we choose for a warehouse or plant?
If the building is operating and has a working dock or a forklift, choose "Freight: dock or forklift", the base rate with nothing added. With no dock or forklift, choose the liftgate rate, $75 more. A building still under construction is a job site: choose limited access, $100 more, liftgate included.
Can tables ship to a site that is still under construction?
Yes, as a limited-access delivery, $100 over the base freight with the liftgate included. The general contractor has to give site access: the gate, a delivery window and someone to receive the crates. If the break yard is not ready, ship once the building is operating and has a working dock.
How do purchase orders and tax-exempt orders work?
Purchase orders and tax-exempt orders go through a project quote. Send the list; a person replies within one business day, and your written quote follows once freight and availability are confirmed.
Do quantity prices apply to a mixed order?
Yes. Tables of any model count together toward the table quantity price: $25 off each at 5 or more, $50 at 10 or more and $75 at 25 or more. Metal cans and benches have their own quantity prices. A project quote applies the quantity prices of all three groups on one order. Online checkout takes orders up to 700 lb and applies the quantity price of one group per order; five or more tables weigh more than that, so table quantity prices come by project quote.
What warranty and returns come with the tables?
Every table, bench and receptacle carries the 10-Year Limited Warranty, and a missing or defective part ships free. Returns are accepted within 30 days; a change-of-mind return carries a 15% restocking fee and the buyer pays the return freight.
